Emily Vervlied and junior
Maddie MacMaster each notched two goals and one assist, but the Boston University women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-10 decision to No. 6 Stony Brook in the Terriers' season opener on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
BU battled hard for 60 minutes, scoring four of the first five goals of the second half to cut the Stony Brook lead to single digits midway through the frame, but the Seawolves were able to hang on for the win.

Jennifer Barry led the Terriers with a career-high six draw controls, with Vervlied adding a pair in addition to also securing one ground ball and one caused turnover.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kaye opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the contest, but the Seawolves scored the next five goals to take a 5-1 edge.
- McCarthy broke up the run when she converted a Vervlied feed with 21:17 on the clock.
- Kaye and Jennifer Barry added first-half goals, but Stony Brook took a 16-4 advantage into the break.
- The Terriers scored four of the first five goals of the second half, including a run of three straight goals, to cut the Seawolves' lead to 17-8 midway through the second half.
- Stony Brook answered with three consecutive goals to push its lead back to double digits.
- Vervlied finished the day with two straight goals to put the final score at 20-10.
GAME NOTES
- Kaye has notched a goal in six of her seven career games.
- Vervlied posted the 12th multi-goal game of her career.
