The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 2021 season on Saturday when the Terriers host Division II Pace University at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Terriers were originally slated to host No. 14 UMass on Saturday, but that game will not be played as scheduled. UMass' men's lacrosse program announced on Monday that it has paused all activities.

Due to current public health guidelines on gathering sizes and University restrictions regarding visitors on campus, fans are not allowed at Nickerson Field or surrounding areas. Please be advised that any visitors that gather in an attempt to watch the game will be asked to leave the area by game management personnel.

This will be the Terriers' first game at Nickerson Field in 384 days. BU welcomed Ohio State to Nickerson Field on Feb. 8, 2020.

BU (1-0) opened its 2021 regular season with a 15-12 win at Merrimack on Feb. 20. The Terriers' starting attack trio of sophomore Vince D'Alto (3g, 4a), junior Timmy Ley (6g) and sophomore Louis Perfetto (2g, 2a) combined for 17 points in the victory. Ley is currently second in the NCAA in goals per game (6.0) while D'Alto is second in the nation in assists per game (4.0) and third in the country in points per game (7.0).

One major reason for the Terriers' success last weekend at Merrimack was their excellence in clearing the ball. BU went 20-for-21 on its clears in the 15-12 win. The Terriers' clear percentage of .952 ranks third in the nation.

Pace enters Saturday's contest ranked No. 12 in the latest USILA Coaches' poll. The Setters finished last year's shortened season at No. 11. Pace returns nine players who started in its second (and final) game of last spring, which came on March 7, 2020. The Setters' roster features 30 upperclassmen, including a combined 18 seniors and graduate students.

Senior Joseph Diggle paced the Setters with seven points last year thanks to three goals and a team-high four assists. Junior Jake Veres led Pace with four goals in 2021 and added two assists for six points. Graduate student Bryce Clark was 18-of-31 at the faceoff X last year. Graduate student Daniel Lewis picked up a team-high 10 ground balls in 2021. Junior goaltender Louis Ragusa started both games last year, going 1-1 with a .676 save percentage and a 6.86 goals-against average.

Pace head coach Tom Mariano was also the head coach of the Chesapeake Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse this past summer, coaching 2020 graduate Chase Levesque.
