The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 2021 season on Saturday when the Terriers host Colgate in a Patriot League North Division battle. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3Â p.m.
Due to institutional policy regarding visitors on campus, spectators are not allowed at any athletic event during the spring semester. For BU Athletics outdoor facilities, this restriction includes all areas surrounding the venue. Please be advised that any visitors who gather to watch an event will be asked to leave the area by game management personnel.
BU is 4-3 in seven meetings with Colgate, though two of those three losses have been by two goals. The Terriers have twice scored 18 goals against the Raiders and have reached double digits against them on four separate occasions.Â
The Terriers improved to 1-1 in conference play with a convincing 16-6 win at Holy Cross on March 12. Junior
Timmy Ley (7g, 2a) and sophomore
Vince D'Alto (5g, 4a) both recorded a career-best nine points, with Ley earning a spot on the USILA Team of the Week in addition to his Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award. Junior
Matt Garber also garnered a weekly award from the conference, as he was selected as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week award following his 15-save performance.
No trio of attackers in the Patriot League has produced more points this season than D'Alto, Ley and sophomore Louis Perfetto. They have combined for 37 goals and 24 assists for 61 points through four games this season, accounting for 66.0% of the Terriers' goals this season. BU has also received production from freshman Christian Quadrino, who leads all Patriot League rookies in goals (7) and points (10).Â
Not only is BU scoring in bunches, but the Terriers also boast the ninth-ranked defense in the nation, holding opponents to just 8.0 goals per game this season. Junior Matt Gardner had a career day on Friday at Holy Cross, as he caused two turnovers and collected three ground balls in the Terriers' win, both of which were career highs. He has been terrific as part of the Terriers' ride, as he has helped the BU defense force six failed clears in each of the last two tilts.
Colgate improved to 1-2 on the season with a 12-11 overtime win against Holy Cross on March 6. The Raiders' game at Army West Point scheduled for last weekend was postponed due to a positive test within Army's Tier 1.
Senior Mike Hawkins leads Colgate in goals (10), assists (6) and points (16). Freshman Michael Minicus is second on the squad in both goals (7) and points (8). Junior Will Sidari is first on Colgate with three caused turnovers while junior Thor Ademic leads the squad with 13 ground balls. Sophomore Thomas Colucci made his first appearance of the season against Holy Cross and went 19-of-23 (82.6%) with seven ground balls. Sophomore Brian Wilmans has gone 26-of-58 (.448) at the X. Junior goalkeeper Sean Collins has started all three games for Colgate, posting a .434 save percentage and a 14.02 goals-against average this season.
