BRIGHTON, Mass. – Facing a two-run deficit with just four outs remaining, the Boston University softball team rallied for a 3-2 victory at Boston College on Tuesday afternoon.
With their first one-run victory of the season, the Terriers (11-1) extend their win streak to 10 games, while the Eagles drop to 5-11.
Sophomore
Allison Boaz (3-0) extended her scoreless streak as well to 15 innings with a strong three-inning relief appearance that saw her hold the Eagles to just one hit. Freshman
Kayla Roncin delivered a clutch two-out RBI single to spark the rally in the sixth, and it was classmate
Lauren Keleher who put the ball in play on a 1-2 pitch in the seventh that saw two runs scored on the Eagles' third error of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles struck first in the bottom of the first with an infield single, stolen base and RBI single against sophomore Lizzy Avery, who got out of the jam with a ground out and fly out.
- Keleher started the second with a walk and took second on junior Emily Gant's single before CC Cook (1-5) earned a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.
- BC threatened again in the third with a two-out single and walk before senior Ali DuBois earned a swinging strikeout.
- Gant doubled down the left field line in the fourth but was stranded at third following a ground out and fly out.
- The Eagles took advantage of DuBois' throwing error in the bottom half with a two-out RBI triple but stranded two on base with a ground out.
- BC started the fifth with a double against DuBois and then a single up the middle against Boaz, but Huerta-Leipner was able to get the ball home in time for sophomore Audrey Sellers to apply the tag to keep the deficit at 2-0.
- The rally started in the sixth, as Keleher singled up the middle and Gant reached on an infield error with one out.
- Roncin ripped the first pitch with two outs to plate freshman pinch-runner Kate Pryor to put the deficit at 2-1.
- BC had a runner at second on a throwing error and stolen base with two outs in the bottom half before Boaz earned a swinging strikeout.
- Sophomore Caitlin Coker started the seventh inning by reaching first on a fielding error before stealing second and reaching third on a wild pitch.
- Huerta-Leipner followed with a walk and stolen base to set up Keleher's grounder that was misplayed by an infielder and allowed two runs to score.
- Boaz collected three outs in quick fashion to seal the victory.
