STAMFORD, Conn. – Competing in its final non-conference match of the regular season, the Boston University men's tennis team fell to Big East member St. John's, 7-0, on Sunday night at the Chelsea Piers Club.
The Red Storm (9-0) remained perfect on the season by winning two of three doubles matches for a hard-fought point and then capturing six singles points in straight sets against the Terriers (2-4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. John's posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, but senior David Bogatin and freshman Tanisq Mallpani pulled out a 7-5 victory in the No. 2 slot to keep the doubles point up for grabs.
- Senior Owen Lu and freshman Jose Maria Robalino battled to the end before ultimately losing a tiebreaker, 7-6(4).
- In singles, Lu led the Terriers with the most games won (9) in a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 loss at No. 3.
- Bogatin also went back-and-forth in the top slot in a 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
NEXT UP: Army West Point
- The Terriers will remain in Connecticut and resume Patriot League play against Army on Sunday, April 11, at UConn.
- BU dropped a 4-1 decision in West Point two years ago in the last meeting between the two programs.
