BURLINGTON, Vt. - Trailing by six early in the second half, the Boston University women's lacrosse team scored nine unanswered goals en route to a 12-10 win at Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Virtue Field.
Vermont (1-1) held a 9-3 lead with 27:24 remaining in regulation, but BU (1-2) battled back with nine consecutive goals to earn its first win of the season. Seven different Terriers found the back of the net, including senior Makenzie Irvine, who scored the final four goals of her team's 9-0 run to match her career high for goals in a game.
Freshmen Kendall Sims and Tobey Tick each scored their first collegiate goal as part of the second-half comeback. Tick finished the day with two markers while Sims scored once and assisted on Irvine's tying and go-ahead goals. Senior Emily Vervlied notched two goals and two assists while senior Ava Barry, sophomore Lauren Kaye and senior Bridget McCarthy all had one goal apiece.
Jennifer Barry had a terrific game for BU, as the sophomore had four caused turnovers, four ground balls and three draw controls. Sophomore Claire Gola led the Terriers with her first four draw controls of the season, including a crucial one with less than 90 seconds to play that halted any potential Vermont rally.
Sophomore goalkeeper Arielle Hammer made six saves to earn her first collegiate win.
