BU Today: Back on the Field, BU Softball Has Three-Peat in Mind
Fastpitch News Podcast Interview with Coach Waters (starts at 22:30)
BOSTON – Riding a 12-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will open an eight-game homestand with a pair of doubleheaders against Patriot League foe Colgate over the weekend. The first pitch for both Saturday and Sunday is set for 12 p.m.
The Terriers' overall win streak ranks sixth nationally, while their program-record 23-game home win streak is now tops in the nation. The 23-game streak dates back to the 3-0 performance in the 2018 Patriot League tournament and also features an identical 3-0 record in the 2019 tournament. Four of the victories came against the Raiders in 2019, including an opening-round 3-0 decision.
This season, BU is 2-0 at home following a tightly-contested DH sweep over preseason America East favorite Stony Brook (6-3, 3-0). Last weekend, the Terriers opened conference play with a DH sweep at Lehigh, featuring both a lopsided 16-0 decision and also a nail-biting 1-0 victory. BU's lone loss came during a 3-1 season-opening performance at Providence in which the Terriers rebounded from a game-two 1-0 loss with a DH sweep featuring a combined score of 18-3.
Junior
Emily Gant is batting a team-high .429 with 13 runs score and 10 RBIs, while classmate
Nicole Amodio (.355) owns a team-high 13 RBIs and team-high .535 on-base percentage. Junior
Aliyah Huerta-Leipner (.302) has reached home plate 14 times. Overall, BU is hitting .287 as a team and owns a 32-10 advantage in extra-base hits alongside 19-3 lead in stolen bases. Six Terriers have collected at least 10 hits this season with senior
Jen Horita earning 10 in just 22 at-bats (.455) while adding three sacrifice bunts.
In the circle, senior and two-time PL Pitcher of the Year
Ali DuBois (9-0, 0.51 ERA) has recorded 62 strikeouts in 54.2 innings and has held opponents to a .144 batting average. She won three straight PL Pitcher of the Week awards before sophomore
Allison Boaz (4-0, 0.74 ERA) earned her first on Tuesday. She's pitched 22 straight scoreless innings while collecting 19 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. A 2019 All-PL First Team honoree, Gant (0-1, 2.63 ERA) will look to contribute in the circle this weekend as well after she posted two strikeouts in her one inning of work last weekend at Lehigh.
The Raiders started conference play with a DH home split to Holy Cross with a 2-0 loss and then a 9-0(6) victory after they split four games with Albany and dropped two at Wagner. Colgate is batting .285 as a team and is led by Morgan Farrah, who is batting .462 with two homers and nine RBIs. Steph Jacoby is hitting .381 with seven RBIs, while Virginia Irby (.280) owns 10 runs scored in eight games. Bailey Misken (1-2, 3.76 ERA) and Bella Crow (2-2, 6.30 ERA) have started four games apiece in the circle.
BU is 18-1 all-time in the series with a perfect 10-0 home record. In 2019, the Terriers won four at home, including a 3-0 victory in the opening round of the PL tournament. DuBois allowed just two hits in that shutout with six strikeouts, while Crow held BU to nine hit with one strikeout and zero walks.
