Terriers Draw 1-1 Decision vs. Army on Senior Day

BOSTON – Hosting Army West Point on Senior Day, the Boston University men's soccer team struck in the fourth minute, but Army delivered an equalizer in the 83rd minute, and the score held at 1-1 after two periods of overtime Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Sophomore Ronaldo Marshall delivered the opening goal for BU (1-2-1, 1-2-1 PL), sending a left-footed one-timer off a cross from senior Zion Balogun to grab the team lead in points at eight total. Army West Point (2-3-1, 0-3-1 PL) was able to later tie the game on a free kick.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Michael Stone was tested early with a headed on frame 30 seconds into play, but deflected the shot, and the follow-up went above the crossbar.
  • BU capitalized in transition as Balogun weaved his way from the far wing towards the 18-yard box, and drove a cross towards Marshall, who one-timed a strike into the back of the net.
  • George Abunaw nearly made it a two-goal game in the 40th minute, driving towards the back line and nearly got an open look, though Army's keeper left his post and smothered the ball to prevent further damage.
  • Army nearly tied the game in the 74th minute, as a Black Knight had a chance from the corner of the 18-yard box, but Stone collapsed on the ball to hold the lead.
  • The Black Knights broke through in the 83rd minute as Carter Kowalewski bended a free kick from 20 yards out just inside the near post for the equalizer to force extra time.
  • Army's best look at a game-winning goal came two minutes into the first period, but it blasted an empty-net opportunity high.
GAME NOTES
  • BU moved to 5-0-2 all-time at Nickerson Field against the Black Knights.
  • Stone made his second start of the season in net and finished with four saves.
  • Army finished with a 10-2 command in corner kicks and place 5-of-16 shots on goal.
