Colgate Tops Women's Soccer in 2OT, 1-0

BOSTON – Making its return to the Patriot League Tournament, the Boston University women's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Colgate, but the Raiders ended BU's postseason run in double overtime to advance to the championship game with a 1-0 decision.

Hosting its first playoff game since the 2018 Patriot League championship game, BU (2-2-1, 2-1-1 PL) and Colgate (4-3-1, 3-3-1 PL) exchanged fields for 90 minutes before heading to overtime. The Raiders drove down the wing to start the second frame of overtime, where Adrienne Vaughn sent a cross to Sage DiGiulio, who sent in a one-timer right in front of the six-yard box to end the game.

How It Happened
  • Jenna Oldham got the first shot of the game off from 20 yards out that veered wide of the post just under a minute into play.
  • Colgate gained possession as it reeled off five shots over the ensuing 25 minutes.
  • Lily Matthews sent a header from 12 yards out in the 42nd minutes that Colgate's keeper sprung upward for the save, keeping it a scoreless game at the half.
  • BU ripped a trio of shots in the 66th minute, as Ashley Raphael, Geovanna Pereira and Ann Marie Jaworski each laced strikes wide of the frame.
  • Colgate got back-to-back shots in the 77th minute, heading a cross that Morgan Messner knocked down, and the follow-up sailed wide.
  • Grace Ferrara and Oldham each had quality looks in the 86th minute, though the Raiders' keeper made full-extension saves on both to force overtime.
  • Messner made a highlight-reel save in the 95th minute, elevating to punch out a drive headed towards the upper-90.
  • Colgate recorded the lone four shots of the first overtime before sending in the golden goal on the lone shot of the second extra frame.
