No. 20 Terriers Cap Undefeated Regular Season with 5-2 Win over Lehigh

BOSTON - Senior Liz Ryan scored twice and freshman Tess Csejka's first collegiate goal proved to be the game winner as the No. 20 Boston University field hockey team posted a 5-2 Senior Day win over Lehigh on Sunday afternoon to complete a perfect 4-0 regular season and clinch the top seed for the Patriot League tournament.

Senior Kathryn Scheerer had a goal and an assist while sophomore Ellie McIntyre also scored for the Terriers, who will host the league tournament beginning on Thursday (April 22) and take on fourth-seeded Holy Cross in the semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers quickly earned a pair of corners and scored on both of them to take a 2-0 lead just 2:27 into the contest. Ryan knocked in a rebound following a feed from senior Alexis Pettisani just 34 seconds into the contest.
  • Moments later, the Terriers doubled their lead when Scheerer drilled a corner shot from the top of the circle off an insert by freshman Thalia Steenssens.
  • The Mountain Hawks responded, however, with two corner goals of their own. The visitors got on the board with a drag-flick corner shot by Lenke Havas just 19 seconds after the Scheerer goal to make it a 2-1 contest. Lehigh used a corner to draw even with Julia Gatelein sneaking a rebound inside the right post at the 18:53 mark following a defensive save by Pettisani.
  • Csejka broke the deadlock with the game winner in the 39th minute as the freshman attacked from the right side before finding the far side of the cage to give the Terriers a 3-2 lead.
  • A tip-in my McIntyre off a corner attempt by Scheerer in the 43rd minute made it a 4-2 game and Ryan capped the scoring with a one-timer from the left side with 5:15 to play.
