BOSTON – Riding a six-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will host Holy Cross on Friday afternoon with the doubleheader slated for 1 p.m. The Terriers will then visit the Crusaders for a Saturday doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
The four-game series was originally postponed after Holy Cross went on pause last Saturday (April 17), but the Crusaders
resumed team activities on Tuesday (April 20) following full contact tracing. BU will now be hosting HC on Friday instead of Sunday to avoid expected rain.
In their last home series, the Terriers (24-2, 13-1 PL) had their NCAA-leading 28-game home win streak snapped by Army in a DH split back on April 9 but bounced back with a DH sweep over the Black Knights on April 10. They then solidified their first-place standing in the Patriot League with a four-game sweep at Bucknell last weekend.
Senior
Ali DuBois (17-0, 0.75 ERA) collected three of the one-run victories over the Bison to earn her fifth PL Pitcher of the Week award. She's tallied 100 strikeouts in 102.2 innings and is holding opposing batters to a .159 average. Junior
Emily Gant (3-2, 1.60 ERA) went the distance in the fourth victory at Bucknell with the help of nine strikeouts after earning her first solo shutout of the season against Army a week prior. Sophomore
Allison Boaz (4-0, 2.04 ERA) owns three shutouts and is holding opponents to a .140 batting average.
Freshman
Lauren Nett led BU against the Bison at the plate hitting .500 with three doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. She's 13-for-24 (.542) on the season with senior and two-time PL Player of the Week
Jen Horita hitting .415 (22-for-53). Sophomore
Caitlin Coker (.359) owns a team-high 20 runs scored, while junior
Nicole Amodio (.317) has 18 RBIs. Gant (.345), freshman
Lauren Keleher (.333) and junior
Aliyah Huerta-Leipner (.259) join Coker in tallying both double-digit RBIs and runs scored, as the Terriers are currently hitting .299 with a 57-25 advantage in extra-base hits.
The Crusaders are 2-6 in PL play with a 2-0(8) win at Colgate and 2-0 victory over Bucknell. In their last two games, they earned an 8-5 non-conference win over Brown and most recently dropped a 9-4 decision to Albany. Erin Bengston leads HC at .349, six doubles and 12 RBIs with both Bella Jankowski (.333) and Jessie Nagel (.300) also hitting at least .300. Kelly Nelson (4-3, 1.09 ERA) owns three shutouts with an impressive 95 strikeouts in 64.0 innings. Megan Yurchick (1-6, 3.03 ERA) has equaled Nelson's eight starts and has helped the staff hold opponents to a .240 batting average against the Crusaders' .233 team average.
BU is 39-8 all-time against the Crusaders, having won the last 12 meetings. In 2019 at home, BU earned a 7-1 game-one victory and followed up with a 3-0 win. In the third matchup, Gant out-dueled Nelson for a 2-0(8) victory after tripling to right and scoring on
Emily Morrow's ('19) walk-off homer.
