Nicole Amodio, the Boston University softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep at Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon.
After senior
Ali DuBois (19-0) reached the 600-strikeout milestone, junior
Emily Gant (5-2) collected the final two outs for the save in the 5-1 game-one victory and then followed up with five strikeouts for her second consecutive shutout, 4-0. Horita delivered a two-RBI triple to grab the lead for good in the third inning of the first contest, and Amodio launched a 1-1 pitch in the second inning of the final matchup for a three-run bomb.
Previously leading the nation with an active 28-game home win streak, the Terriers (28-2, 17-1 PL) for the meantime now own the top road win streak at 16 contests, as the Crusaders fell to 6-14 (2-10 PL).
GAME 1: BU 5, Holy Cross 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers had two on base to start the game following senior Marina Sylvestri's walk and freshman Lauren Nett's single, but Kelly Nelson earned a pair of ground outs to end the threat.
- The Crusaders scored the game's first run in the bottom half of the first by capitalizing on an error with an RBI single against DuBois.
- Holy Cross committed an error of its own to start the third, but the Terriers were unable to take advantage, stranding a runner at third.
- Freshman Lauren Keleher set the table for a big fourth with a lead-off single.
- Horita followed junior Aliyah Huerta-Leipner's double with a one-out two-RBI triple to right center and then scored a third run on Amodio's RBI sac fly to right.
- Huerta-Leipner and Amodio both doubled to left in the sixth to add another run before Amodio scored on a misplayed error for the 5-1 advantage.
- Holding the Crusaders to just two hits through the first six innings, DuBois ran into trouble with a one-out infield single and error.
- With two on and the tying run on deck, Gant entered the game in relief and shut the door with a strikeout and ground out for her first save of the season.
GAME 2: BU 4, Holy Cross 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the first time, neither team scored in the first inning, but then BU became the first to score in the second.
- With two outs, Keleher hit an infield single to third, took second on freshman Alex-Rose Molinar's walk and then scored on Amodio's three-run homer to right center.
- Holy Cross used a pair of singles and an error to load the bases in the fourth against Gant, but she maintain the shutout with a strikeout and ground out.
- Sophomore Caitlin Coker made the Crusaders pay by leading off with a double to right center and then scoring on a misplayed grounder for the 4-0 advantage.
- The Crusaders had two runners get on base in both the sixth and seventh innings with a combined three singles and walk, but Gant used a strikeout and the defense to seal the shutout victory.
DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
- After batting a perfect 5-for-5 on Friday, Amodio plated five of BU's nine runs on Saturday. She has a team-high 25 RBIs in 30 games this year after totaling 35 in her first 79 career appearances.
- DuBois is the fourth pitcher in both BU and PL history to reach 600 career strikeouts. She just needs 11 more strikeouts to grab third place in the PL record book.
- DuBois moved to No. 2 all-time at BU in innings pitched (642) and will need 198.1 to break the record held by Cassidi Hardy ('10).
- Gant became the fifth Terrier to hit a triple this season in the second game.
- Huerta-Leipner became the second to hit two doubles in one game with Sylvestri the first to accomplish the feat against Army West Point.
- BU improved to 43-8 all-time in the series against Holy Cross by extending its current win streak to 16 games.

- The Terriers are next scheduled to host the Leopards in a four-game series on May 1-2 with both doubleheaders set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
- BU is 18-0 all-time in the series with nine shutouts against Lafayette.
