BOSTON – In a final tune-up before hosting its third straight Patriot League tournament, the Boston University softball team will end the regular season with a non-conference matchup at UMass Lowell on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
The Terriers (32-2, 21-1 PL) extended their active win streak to 14 games last weekend with a run-rule four-game series sweep over Lafayette. Receiving votes in both the ESPN.com/USA Softball and NFCA/USA Today Top-25 polls, they are currently one of seven teams to rank in the top 20 in both ERA and batting average alongside UCLA, Oklahoma, Arizona, James Madison, Oklahoma State and Long Beach State.
Senior
Jen Horita is one of three Terriers above .400 at .461 with 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored, while senior
Nicole Amodio (.416) owns a team-high 31 RBIs alongside 11 doubles. Reigning NFCA National and PL Player of the Week
Caitlin Coker went 10-for-13 last weekend to increase her average to .415. Coker owns 37 runs scored and is a perfect 15-for-15 in stolen base attempts. Junior
Emily Gant (.397 avg.) is second with 25 runs scored and 20 RBIs, just ahead of junior
Aliyah Huerta-Leipner's (.304) 19 RBIs.
In the circle, senior
Ali DuBois (21-0, 0.73 ERA) has posted 124 strikeouts in 125.0 innings while holding opponents to .158. She's posted seven shutouts, including two last weekend against Lafayette, and needs one more to tie the PL record of 31. Gant (5-2, 1.06 ERA) has tallied 45 strikeouts in 46.1 innings, while sophomore
Allison Boaz (5-0, 1.94 ERA) owns 31 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.
The River Hawks are 7-3 at home compared to their 6-12 road record. Sarah Ratcliffe leads UML with a .385 batting average, while Courtney Cashman (.379) owns the power numbers at 11 homers, 26 RBIs, five doubles and two triples alongside 29 runs scored. Batting .267 as a team, UML has only been shut out twice this season. Ryley White (8-2, 1.83 ERA) leads the pitching staff with 75 strikeouts in 69.0 innings and three shutouts while helping the River Hawks hold teams to .264 batting average.
BU is 14-2 all-time against UML after claiming a pair of one-run victories in 2019. In the Terriers' last road trip in 2018, BU outscored the River Hawks by a combined score of 20-3. UML last defeated BU in 2017 on the road, 4-2.
