Women's Soccer Hosts UMass Lowell Monday for Home Opener

BOSTON - Coming off a shutout on the road to start the season, the Boston University women's soccer team will host UMass Lowell for its home opener on Monday, Aug. 23. Originally scheduled for Sunday, due to the projected tropical storm the game has been moved to Monday.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is coming off its first season-opening victory since 2014 after a 2-0 shutout at Northeastern Thursday night.
  • Senior Margaret Berry headed in the game-winning goal in the 11th minute, and junior Sophia Woodland followed in the 20th with a left-footed strike.
  • Each goal was assisted by senior Jenna Oldham, who became the first Terrier to provided a pair of helpers in a game since senior Taylor Kofton in 2018.
  • Freshman Celia Braun earned the start in net, while junior Gretchen Bennett came on in the second half to hold the shutout.
  • The Terriers owned a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks in the first half and a 9-4 overall lead for the match.
  • In home openers, BU is 13-11-2, and has outscored opponents 38-25.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
  • The River Hawks captured their first America East regular season title last spring with a 4-0-0 conference clip, and finished 5-2-1 overall.
  • UMass Lowell also opened its season with a 2-0 shutout against Patriot League rival Holy Cross.
  • Ioanna Paptheodorou and Anna Edson netted goals in the first half, while Morgan Wesson made two saves as the defense limited the Crusaders to just six shots.
THE SERIES
  • BU played UMass Lowell in its inaugural season in 1995, where it came away with a 3-0 home victory.
  • This will be the first varsity match between the two squads.

  • BU will return to the road as it visits Boston College on Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m.
