HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening half was mostly an even, back-and-forth affair but the visitors were able to take a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to their first shot of the day.
- In the 13th minute, the ball was served into the box off a free kick by Emily Coe and BU goalkeeper Celia Braun punched it away but it deflected to Melissa Lamanna, who got enough of it from nine yards out to send a lofting shot just under the right corner of the goal.
- BU shook off the Lafayette goal and did not allow a shot on goal for the remainder of the opening half.
- The Terriers controlled play for the majoring of the latter half and were finally rewarded with just under 12 minutes to play.
- Thompson and sophomore Abigail McNulty teamed up to cause a turnover and Thompson sent a through ball up the left side to McNulty, who sent a low cross to freshman Morgan Fagan at the near post.
- After her first touch went behind her, Fagan got back to ball and spotted Thompson all alone in the middle of the box, where she converted the shot for her first goal as a Terrier.
- BU stayed hungry looking for a winner and McNulty once again created a successful scoring chance, controlling a 50/50 ball with a header pass to herself that allowed her to create space and get the ball into the box with just over a minute to play.
- The Lafayette defense was able to prevent McNulty from getting off a shot but a clearing attempt was intercepted by Thompson, who dribbled along the top of the box before sending a shot that went off goalkeeper Natalie Neumann's hands and in with just 75 seconds to play.
