Terriers Fall at Northeastern, 2-1

DEDHAM, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team was edged in a crosstown matchup on Sunday afternoon as Northeastern earned a 2-1 win over the Terriers at Dedham Field.

Junior Caroline Kelly made 11 saves and freshman Payton Anderson scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season for BU, which moves to 2-8 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Husky offense came out firing, racking up six shots on goal and two corners within the first eight minutes of play.
  • Kelly and the BU defense weathered the early storm, however, and kept the game scoreless.
  • The Terriers earned their first corner in the final minute of the first quarter and junior Rachel Borzymowski's attempt on the play went just wide of the cage.
  • Both teams got on the board in the second quarter starting with Northeastern in the 19th minute on a tally by Mak Graves.
  • Despite being down a player due to a green card, BU was able to get an equalizer on its second corner of the contest.
  • From the top of the circle, Anderson drilled a shot inside the left post on assists from seniors Casey Thompson and Rebecca Janes at the 26:46 mark to create a 1-1 deadlock at the half.
  • Borzymowksi kept it tied in the 40th minute when she made an impressive defensive save inside the right post.
  • The Huskies were able to regain the lead with 2:27 left in the third as Lauren Rowe scored off a perfectly executed corner.
  • That goal would stand as the winner as the Terriers were able to record just one more shot the rest of the way.
GAME NOTES
  • Borzymowski increased her nation-leading total in defensive saves to six.
  • Six of Kelly's 11 saves were made in the first quarter.
  • Julia Gluyas earned the win in goal for the Huskies with a two-save performance.
  • The loss snapped the Terriers' five-game win streak against the Huskies which was the longest by either side in the series history.
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers will take a week break from their schedule and next host Maine on Sunday (Oct. 3).
  • Game time at New Balance Field is set for 4 p.m.
