Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Terriers Drop High-Paced Effort To Crimson, 73-58

BOSTON - Senior Maren Durant tallied a team-high 16 points and five assists, and sophomore Alex Giannaros added 13 points, but the Boston University women's basketball program ended non-conference play with a loss to Harvard, 73-58, on Wednesday evening at Case Gym.

Trailing by double digits on multiple occasions in the second half, BU (5-6) trimmed the deficit to two possessions twice near the middle of the fourth quarter. However, the Crimson (7-5) closed the game on an 8-0 run to seal the decision, winning its seventh-straight game over the Terriers.

Durant also finished second on the team with seven rebounds, just behind freshman Sam Crispe's eight. Senior Sydney Johnson collected six boards, four assists, and four steals.

Harmoni Turner notched a game-best 28 points on 12-of-21 shooting with 10 rebounds, while Elena Rodriguez dropped 21 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides traded three-pointers three minutes into the game, as sophomore Lauren Davenport nailed a corner jumper, only for Turner to match on the other end.  Durant followed up with a contested layup by the right block to put BU up 9-7.
  • With 3:49 to play in the opening quarter, Giannaros knocked down her own triple. Rodriguez responded with a three on the Crimson's next possession, however.
  • Another Rodriguez basket followed Davenport's second three of the afternoon, settling the score at 15-15 heading into the second.
  • Harvard scored 16 of the second's first 20 points to lead by as many as 12 with 4:30 on the clock.
  • Durant found Giannaros in the left corner for a three to close the Terriers' deficit to 33-26 with 2:28 until halftime, but the Crimson scored the final four points of the frame to take an 11-point lead into the locker room.
  • Johnson picked up two of her steals in the first 1:45 of the third. Both led to fastbreak layups, including a conventional three-point play to pull BU within 39-33.
  • With 3:32 remaining in the third, following two Durant free throws, the forward found a cutting Crispe through the left lane for a layup that made it 47-41 Crimson.
  • Harvard would hold the Terriers without a field goal the rest of the stanza, however, to replenish its advantage to 10.
  • Neither side hit a basket from the field until the 7:48 mark of the fourth, when Giannaros canned a wide-open three in the left corner to make it 55-46 in Harvard's favor.
  • Rodriguez's layup as the clock read 6:38 created a 59-48 Crimson edge, but Johnson's coast-to-coast layup and Davenport's ensuing three closed the gap to 59-53 at the fourth's midpoint.
  • Harvard drained a jumper on the other end, but freshman Anastasiia Semenova buried a left-wing three-pointer for a 61-56 Terrier deficit with 4:26 on the clock.
  • Johnson's foul-line jumper with 2:57 left would serve as BU's final points on the evening before the Crimson collected four baskets the rest of the way.
