Caitlin Weimar posted a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double, senior
Sydney Johnson added 15 points as well, and the Boston University women's basketball program won its Patriot League opener with a 62-39 triumph at Navy on Friday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
BU (6-6, 1-0 PL) trailed Navy (0-12, 0-1 PL) by as many as nine points early in the second quarter, but outscored the Mids 56-24 in the final three frames. The Terriers set season-highs with 51 rebounds and nine blocks, while allowing a season-low in points.
Weimar and Johnson each posted two steals and two rejections as well. Junior

Lauren Davenport collected seven points each, while senior
Maren Durant notched eight boards.
Sydne Watts dropped a team-high 15 points to pace Navy, while Maren Louridas posted 13 points and seven caroms.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU started the game 0-for-8 from the field, collecting just three points on foul shots until Weimar's hook shot went in as the clock read 1:15 in the first.
- Watts responded with a triple to boost Navy's edge to 15-6 after 10 minutes of play.
- Johnson nailed a corner three and another jumper to cut the gap to 17-11, but Watts buried another three to extend the Mids' lead to 20-11.
- The Terriers ignited a 13-0 run at the 7:21 mark to gain a 24-20 advantage. Weimar provided six points on three layups in the run, while Davenport's block and ensuing floater with 3:19 until halftime tied the contest.
- Leading by two entering the third, Johnson scored BU's first six points in the stanza, holding the Terrier lead afloat at 30-27 with 7:14 on the clock.
- Following two Watts free throws with 6:21 left in the third, BU closed the period on a 13-2 run. Freshman Sam Crispe drilled a left-wing three, and Weimar scored two buckets in the final 38 seconds, including a buzzer-beating jumper in the high paint.
- Leading by 11 heading into the final quarter, the Terriers scored the first 12 points in the frame. Davenport and sophomore Alex Giannaros each canned a three, while Crispe and Johnson converted fastbreak layups.
- Mingo dropped seven consecutive points for BU, including a three-pointer with 1:07 to play that extended the advantage to 60-37.

- BU shot 41 percent in the game, including 50 percent from the second quarter onward. The Terriers went 8-for-14 from the field in the third.
- Navy was limited to 21.2 percent shooting.
- The rebounding battle favored BU, 51-43, with 40 defensive boards going the Terriers' way.
- The Terriers scored 32 points in the paint, and held a 31-0 advantage in bench points.
- BU also collected 17 fastbreak points.
- Giannaros led BU with five assists, while Johnson and junior Sophie Beneventine each had three.
- Weimar's seven baskets led all scorers on the day.

- Weimar, who made her first appearance since Dec. 1, now has six double-doubles in eight games this season. She leads BU with 13.1 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, and 17 blocks.
- Johnson has scored in double figures in 52 career games, including 28 of her last 30 games against Patriot League foes.
- Giannaros extended her three-point streak to nine consecutive makes before her first miss since the season opener against Northeastern, a span of five games.
- Durant is now nine rebounds away from entering the top 10 in career boards at BU.
- BU snagged more than 50 caroms in a game for the first time since Jan. 2, which also came against Navy.
- The Terriers also held an opponent under 40 points for the first time since Jan. 29, 2020 against Loyola Maryland.
- Four of BU's six wins this season have come by 20 or more points.
- The Terriers have won six of their last seven games vs. the Mids, trimming the all-time series to 10-8 in Navy's favor.
- Friday also marked the first time in the rivalry that BU has won two-straight games in Annapolis.
