BOSTON - The Boston University women's lacrosse team fell to Colgate, 13-7, on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
Freshman
Matty Spaeth had a hat trick for the Terriers while sophomore
Kendall Sims added a pair of goals.
BU held a 2-1 lead in the early stages before the visitors reeled off five straight goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Terriers move to 0-8 on the year and 0-2 in Patriot League play while the Raiders improve to 2-7 with a 1-0 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spaeth opened the scoring 1:39 into the contest with an unassisted tally.
- Colgate's Devon Maillet responded with her first of three tallies on the day to make it a 1-1 contest.
- BU regained the lead with 10:59 left in the opening quarter when Spaeth took a pass from junior Lauren Kaye and curled around the defense before getting a shot past Colgate goalkeeper Kieran Gerow.
- The Raiders then put together a decisive 5-0 run, including three free-position goals, over a span of six minutes to establish a 6-2 cushion.
- The BU defense held Colgate scoreless for 17 minutes following their five-goal spurt but could only notch two goals on the other end during the span.
- Junior Jennifer Barry scored on the final shot of the first quarter to get the Terriers within three at 6-3.
- Spaeth capped her three-goal performance with the first goal of the second quarter, which didn't come until the 8:26 mark, to make it a 6-4 contest, but that's as close as BU would get the rest of the way.
- Colgate got back on the board with 1:26 left in the second and scored with 0.2 seconds left in the half to take an 8-4 lead into the break.
- The Raiders made it four straight goals with the only two tallies of the third quarter to take their largest lead yet at 10-4.
- BU went without a goal for 28:46 before sophomore Kendall Sims scored off a free-position 5:20 into the fourth quarter.
- The Terriers tried to muster a late comeback as Sims scored again with 6:58 to play before sophomore Ellen Monahan notched her first collegiate goal to make it 11-7.
- Colgate held its ground, however, and added two late goals to close out the victory.
