The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue the 2022 season on Saturday when the No. 13/12 Terriers begin a three-game homestand against Lafayette. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU suffered its first setback of the season, falling at No. 15 Harvard, 13-10, on Tuesday night.
- Junior Vince D'Alto and senior Timmy Ley each recorded three goals and one assist while junior Louis Perfetto had one goal and three assists.
- D'Alto is three points away from 100 career points while Ley is 12 goals shy of joining James Burr ('19) and Jack Wilson ('18) as the only Terriers with 100 career goals.
- If Ley scores on Saturday he will extend his nation-best goal scoring streak to 30 games.
- D'Alto, Ley and Perfetto make up one of just two trios in the country where each player has at least 14 assists.
- The Terriers' hot start to the 2022 campaign has landed them back in the national conversation, as BU is now No. 12 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and No. 13 in the USILA coaches poll.
- That is the highest BU has ever been ranked in those respective polls.
- BU is also the top team in New England according to the latest NEILA poll.
- The Terriers boast the third-ranked defense in the nation, allowing just 8.71 goals per game.
- Part of that success has been because of their ability to cause turnovers, as BU ranks first in the NCAA with 12.71 caused turnovers per game.
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Garber is third in the nation with an 8.87 goals-against average and is fifth in the NCAA with a .596 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 7-0 all-time against Lafayette, including a 13-9 road win last year.
- The Terriers are 3-0 against the Leopards at Nickerson Field, most recently earning a 17-9 home triumph in 2019.
- BU has scored at least 12 goals in all seven wins and has never allowed 10 or more goals to the Leopards.
- The Terriers have averaged 14.57 goals per game against Lafayette while allowing just 7.71 goals per game.
- BU collected its first win in program history at Lafayette on March 15, 2014.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
- Lafayette began the season 2-1 but has since lost five straight games, including a 14-7 defeat at Colgate this past Saturday.
- Two of those losses were to nationally-ranked Army West Point and Rutgers.
- Peter Lehman leads Lafayette in both assists (13) and points (29).
- Lehman is tied with Kalman Kraham for the team lead in goals (16), while John Mathes is third in both goals (15) and points (18).
- Sean Rushton leads Lafayette with nine caused turnovers and is second on the squad with 31 ground balls.
- Aidan Kelly is 72-of-139 (.518) at the faceoff X this season and has gathered a team-high 36 ground balls.
- Three Leopard goalkeepers have appeared in at least four games this season and all three have started at least once.
- Gabe Cummins has started in three of his team-high five appearances this season, going 2-2 with a .427 save percentage and a 12.28 goals-against average.
- Ryan Ness is 0-3 in his four starts, posting a .333 save percentage and a 16.62 goals-against average.
- Ness has started all three Patriot League games for Lafayette this season.
- BU will continue Patriot League play next Saturday when the Terriers host Lafayette in the opening game of Lax-A-Palooza at Nickerson Field.
- Opening faceoff at Nickerson Field is scheduled for 12 p.m., with the women's lacrosse team to face Lafayette at 4 p.m.
