Softball to End Road Trip at Army West Point in Weekend Series

BOSTON – Riding the nation's longest active win streak at 23 contests, the Boston University softball team will conclude the six-game road trip with a weekend series at Army West Point. Saturday's doubleheader will air on ESPN+ with a 12 p.m. start with Sunday's single matchup also set for 12 p.m.

The Terriers most recently claimed a sweep at Colgate to remain perfect in the Patriot League at 12-0 with Lehigh one game behind at 11-1. The Mountain Hawks will host the Raiders this weekend before visiting BU next weekend to end the regular season. The Black Knights most recently dropped a 5-4 decision to Fairfield on Wednesday after losing two of three at Holy Cross.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU also leads the nation with a 14-game road win streak and 29-game win streak against conference opponents. The Terriers' last PL loss came against the Black Knights in the second game of a four-game home series last season.
  • Sophomore Kayla Roncin ranks 10th nationally with a .442 batting average and is second with 69 hits, which are 11 shy of tying the school record.
  • Senior Emily Gant is batting .402 and is tied with classmate Nicole Amodio (.315) at 43 RBIs apiece. They have both earned at least home homers this season alongside junior Caitlin Coker (.361), who ranks 25th nationally at 14 doubles.
  • In the circle, junior Lizzy Avery (16-8, 2.34 ERA) has posted 161 strikeouts in 143.2 innings, while Allison Boaz (18-4, 1.54 ERA) has tallied 95 strikeouts in 149.2 innings.
  • Overall, BU owns the 22nd-best batting average at .316 and the 27th-best ERA at 2.25 with the help of 12 shutouts, 21st most. The Terriers are holding teams to .228 with a 57-26 advantage in stolen bases. 
SCOUTING ARMY WEST POINT
  • The Black Knights are 6-5 at home this season with a 1-2 record against Lehigh, sweep against Lafayette and doubleheader split with Hofstra.
  • Army owns notable non-conference wins over Maryland and UMass.
  • Kayla Edwards leads Army at .344 with 19 RBIs, while Leila Hurst (.305) owns four homers and 29 RBIs.
  • In the circle, Jolie Duong (9-10, 3.00 ERA) has posted 78 strikeouts in 128.1 innings, while Emily Iannotti (7-4, 3.81 ERA) owns 54 strikeouts in 75.1 innings.
  • Overall, Army is batting .242 while holding teams to .298 with a 15-14 advantage in homers.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 19-11, after opening the 2021 PL tournament with a 5-4 home win over the Black Knights.
  • The Terriers went 4-1 last season with three of the wins being decided by one run apiece. They earned an 8-0(5) win and also dropped a 7-4 decision.
  • BU is visiting West Point for the first time since 2018 when the Terriers went 2-1 with a 3-0(8) and 7-0 victory alongside a 3-2 loss.
