BOSTON – For its first road game of the 2022 season, the Boston University women's soccer program travels to UMass Lowell on Thursday (Aug. 25). Opening kick is slated for 7:30 p.m.

BU carries a four-game undefeated road streak into the contest, stretching back to Oct. 1, 2021. Overall, the Terriers went 5-2-1 away from Nickerson Field last year. The River Hawks, meanwhile, play their second home contest of the season after beating Merrimack in its 2022 lidlifter on Aug. 18.

TERRIER TIDBITS

The Terriers are coming off a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Providence last Sunday (Aug. 21).
Trailing 1-0 with 3:15 to play, freshman Giulianna Gianino found the back of the net for the equalizer.
Senior Sophia Woodland then buried the game-winner with 13.1 seconds on the clock for BU's first win of the year.
The victory also marked the first under Head Coach Casey Brown (COM'10).
Goalkeepers Celia Braun and Gretchen Bennett combined to make five saves.
Woodland was selected as the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week for the week of Aug. 22, capturing her first-career weekly award.
Gianino was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week as well, becoming the 12th different Terrier to garner the recognition since BU joined the Patriot League in 2013.
In the first two games of the season, BU has outshot its opponents 27-19.
The Terriers also have a 17-8 advantage on corner kicks.
Dating back to the 2019 season, BU is 7-1-1 in its last nine games when a freshman scores a goal.
The Terriers have won seven straight matches when a senior finds the back of the net.

SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL

The River Hawks are 1-1 on the young campaign, most recently dropping a 3-0 contest at No. 19 Georgetown on Sunday.
In UMass Lowell's 2-1 win over Merrimack, Chloe Layne and Ioanna Papatheodorou each scored.
Papatheodorou was named to the United Soccer Coaches Forwards to Watch List for 2022 after leading the River Hawks with 10 goals a season ago.
Teammate Dunja Mostarac was among the United Soccer Coaches 35 Players to Watch List, and also earned a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
As a team, UMass Lowell was predicted to finish first in the America East Preseason Poll, gaining four first-place votes and 59 points, one ahead of Vermont.

SERIES HISTORY

Thursday marks the third all-time meeting between BU and UMass Lowell.
The game will be the first to take place in Lowell, Mass.
After playing each other last season for the first time in almost 26 years, the Terriers and River Hawks square off in back-to-back years for the first time.
In 2021, the teams played to a 1-1 draw at Nickerson Field. Abigail McNulty potted the Terrier goal in the 38th minute, only for Papatheodorou to equalize in the 49th minute.
Overall, BU is 1-0-1 in the rivalry, having won the opening contest 3-0 on Oct. 16, 1995.
