Men's Soccer Battles Saint Joseph's to 1-1 Draw

BOSTON – Opening the home schedule, the Boston University men's soccer team battled Saint Joseph's to a 1-1 draw at Nickerson Field Friday night.

With their second tie, the Terriers (1-0-2) are unbeaten through three games to start a season for the first time since 2010, as the Hawks moved to 0-1-1.

Sophomore Neal Carlson netted his first career goal in the 43rd minute by pouncing on graduate student Evan Morrison's shot that nailed the crossbar, but SJU's Philipp Wujewitsch managed to score the equalizer in the 60th minute on a rebound shot as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Omry Perel put pressure on the Terriers in the third minute with his first shot being stopped and the second one going wide.
  • Junior Andrew Rent made a strong run toward the box but was forced to make a quick shot while being pressured, and Luis Lodosan was able to make the save moving up.
  • Senior Quinn Matulis forced another save at 31:17, and SJU responded two minutes later with a blocked shot and header that went wide.
  • The Terriers were the first on the scoreboard in the 43rd minute when Matulis sent a free kick toward the far right side of the box to set up Morrison's shot that hit the crossbar and led to Carlson's goal.
  • Perel went on the attack again, as he sent a header wide at 58:11 in the second half and then fired a hard low grounder that forced a Montali save and saw Wujewitsch jump on the loose ball for the quick strike.
  • The Hawks earned three corners in the 65th minute, but the Terriers were able to successfully defend against them to keep the score tied.
  • BU's last big run came in the 88th minute when junior Eitan Rosen had his shot blocked and freshman Diego Rived send the rebound wide right for the draw.
