Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Terriers Fall To Raiders, 1-0

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Wrapping up its four-game road swing, the Boston University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Colgate on Wednesday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

BU (4-6-0, 1-1-0 PL) suffers its first Patriot League loss on the year, and finishes the road stretch with a 2-2 performance. Colgate (1-6-2, 1-1-0 PL) snaps a three-game losing streak.

Both sides played to a scoreless draw through the first 58 minutes of the match. However, Emily Amano found the back of the net in the 59th minute for the game's lone goal.

Senior Sophia Woodland led the Terriers with four shots, while redshirt senior Amy Thompson placed all three of her shots on target. Goalkeepers Celia Braun and Gretchen Bennett combined to make two saves.

Emma Hickey collected three saves for the Raiders, while Ally Giovino led the home side with three shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU earned its first corner kick of the game in the third minute, but it did not yield a shot. Colgate attempted to counter with two opportunities a minute later, but neither chance directed towards the goal.
  • In the ninth minute, the Terriers generated another corner kick that found Woodland in the box, but her header sailed high.
  • Colgate's Sara Anelli whipped a shot towards the right post in the 28th minute, but Braun dove to her left to bat the ball away. The ensuing Raider corner kick was turned away.
  • Thompson turned on a shot from the left side of the penalty box in the 33rd minute, but Hickey scooped up the ball.
  • With 2:05 until halftime, senior Marli Rajacich blasted a 15-yard opportunity off the crossbar and over the goal, keeping the game scoreless as both teams headed to the locker room.
  • Entering the game after the break, Bennett corralled a Giovino shot for her first save of the afternoon in the 50th minute. BU worked quickly in transition to get junior Abigail McNulty a chance near the top of the box, but she sent it wide left.
  • Prior to Colgate's score, the BU defense fended off a pair of Raider corner kicks. However, Colgate maintained possession as Maddie Cappillo found Amano inside the box for the goal.
  • BU applied pressure to the Colgate defense in the 75th minute, drawing Hickey out of the net for Woodland's chance from 10 yards away, but a Raider defender made a team save to keep the Terriers off the scoreboard.
  • Thompson nearly found the equalizer with 2:29 remaining in the match as she placed a shot on target near the right post, but Hickey came out to deny her and preserve the Colgate lead.
