Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten at Nickerson with 2-2 Draw against Army West Point

BOSTON – Remaining unbeaten at Nickerson Field, the Boston University men's soccer team battled Army West Point to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night.

All four goals were scored in the see-saw first half, as the Terriers moved to 2-2-5 and 0-1-2 in conference play with a 1-0-4 home mark, while the Black Knights (4-2-3, 2-0-1 PL) extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

Seniors Colin Innes and Gianluca Arlotti both found the back of the net, and Gage Guerra netted both goals for Army to extend his PL leading total to six scores. Innes was seeking his second successful penalty kick conversion of the night in the second half, but the Black Knights' Tomas Hut made a diving stop to keep the game even.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Brian Hernandez sent the game's first two shots over the crossbar at 5:39 and 6:49, respectively.
  • The Terriers earned the game's first corner in the 11th minute, but Army was able to mount a counter with Sam Epitime sending a long pass to the sprinting Guerra, who got past the backline and chipped the ball over senior Francesco Montali for the 1-0 advantage.
  • The teams went back and forth before the Terriers drew a penalty kick at 25:30 and Innes successfully converted with a high shot up the middle.
  • In less than two minutes, BU took the lead with Arlotti blasting a shot toward the far post from 12 yards out with assistance from Hernandez and freshman Diego Rived.
  • BU earned a corner at 33:59 and later a free kick outside its box at 35:10, but Innes' shot attempt went wide.
  • Army sent a long free kick into the box in the 40th minute and after a brief scramble tied the game off the foot of Guerra, who rifled the ball just under the crossbar to earn the brace.
  • Junior Andrew Rent forced a save from Hut at 51:53, and Hernandez had a shot stopped eight minutes later.
  • After clearing Army's corner, BU marched its way up the field and drew a second penalty kick at 66:58.
  • Innes aimed at the left post with a low grounder, but Hut made the impressive diving save.
  • BU set up Rent with a cross for an eight-yard shot at 85:02, but two defenders were in position to block the attempt away.
  • Junior Eitan Rosen took the last shot at 87:22 that went wide left.
GAME NOTES
  • Innes now has six points this season through nine contests after totaling four in 14 games last year.
