The No. 7 Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its five-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when the Terriers host No. 15/14 Cornell at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
This will be the first time since Nov. 25, 2001, that the two teams will meet at BU. Fans are encouraged to wear red on Saturday and can purchase tickets for Saturday's game by clicking here. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with an audio-only broadcast located here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers most recently defeated No. 19/17 UMass, 6-2, on Wednesday at Agganis.
- The Terriers scored four first-period goals en route to the convincing win.
- Freshman Devin Kaplan scored a career-high two goals and added an assist to complete a career-best three-point night.
- Senior Wilmer Skoog opened the scoring for BU and matched his career highs in both assists (2) and points (3).
- Senior Matt Brown leads BU in goals (9), assists (17) and points (26); he earned an assist in Wednesday's win.
- The Terriers have gone 15-for-15 on the penalty kill over its last five games dating back to the Dec. 11 win at UConn.
- BU has allowed just two power-play goals at home all season.
- The Terriers average 3.90 goals per game, which is tops in Hockey East and fourth-most in the NCAA.
- BU also averages 36.6 shots on goal per game, which ranks second in the country and first in Hockey East.
A HISTORIC RIVALRY TURNS 50
- Saturday will be the 50th meeting between BU and Cornell, with the Big Red ahead in the all-time series, 26-20-3.
- This is the first on-campus meeting between the two schools since Dec. 1, 2002, when the Terriers traveled to Lynah Rink in Ithaca.
- The Terriers have not hosted Cornell for a game since Nov. 25, 2001 at Walter Brown.
- BU went 6-4-0 against Cornell at Walter Brown.
- The teams first met on Jan. 10, 1925, on Beebe Lake in Ithaca, with the Terriers posting a 7-2 win.
- They played again at the same location a little over a year later (a 1-0 BU win) and did not play again until an 8-1 Cornell win on March 11, 1966, in the ECAC Tournament.
- They have faced off in the NCAA tournament on three occasions with the first two being the 1967 and 1972 national title games, won by the Big Red (4-1) and Terriers (4-0), respectively.
- As members of the ECAC, the teams met at least once a year for the next 19 years until BU joined Hockey East for the 1984-85 season.
- The Terriers are 8-7-2 in the 17 meetings that have taken place since they moved to Hockey East.
- The teams have played to a 3-3-2 record at Red Hot Hockey since the event debuted in 2007.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
- Cornell got off to a slow start at 2-4-0 but has been one of the hottest teams in the country since then, going 8-1-1 and moving up to No. 10 in the PairWise entering this weekend's slate of games.
- Last weekend, the Big Red earned road wins against Union (6-1) and RPI (6-4).
- Junior Gabriel Seger (4g, 11a) and senior Ben Berard (3g, 12a) lead Cornell with 15 points apiece.
- Berard is the top assist producer on the team while freshman Nick DeSantis is tops on the squad with five goals.
- DeSantis also has six assists, four of which came against RPI on Jan. 7.
- Seventeen different Cornell skaters have scored at least two goals.
- Cornell boasts the No. 3 defense in the country, allowing just 2.06 goals per game.
- Sophomore goaltender Ian Shane ranks third in the NCAA with a 1.67 goals-against average and also has a .917 save percentage.
