No. 1/2 Terriers Trek to UNH Friday for Hockey East Opener on NESN

The No. 1/2 Boston University men's ice hockey team will open the 40th season of Hockey East on Friday night when the Terriers trek to New Hampshire. The game will be streamed nationally on ESPN+, with fans in New England also able to watch on NESN. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m., with an audio-only broadcast located here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU, the defending Hockey East regular-season and tournament champion, remained No. 1 in the USCHO.com poll after a 3-2 overtime win at Bentley this past Saturday.
- Sophomore Lane Hutson was named Hockey East Player of the Week after scoring the OT-winner against the Falcons, his fourth career overtime goal and sixth career game-winning goal.
- Freshman Macklin Celebrini tallied a goal and an assist in his collegiate debut, becoming the eighth Terrier in the last five seasons to record multiple points in her collegiate debut.
- Graduate captain Case McCarthy made his return to the Terrier lineup for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury during the Hockey East semifinals in March and made an immediate impact, as he scored the game's opening goal with a shot from the right point at 11:37 of the first.
- Sophomores Ryan Greene, Quinn Hutson and Jeremy Wilmer each had a helper, as did freshman Shane Lachance.
- Junior goaltender Mathieu Caron was sharp in his Terrier debut, making several nice stops as part of his 21-save performance.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Wildcats have played 190 times since the 1924-25 season, and BU holds a decided advantage, 117-52-21 (.671).
- That includes an 18-11-6 (.600) record at Whittemore Center.
- BU is undefeated in the past 16 meetings (14-0-2) against the Wildcats, including their current 12-game win streak that started on Feb. 18, 2017 at the Whittemore Center.
- The Terriers have been victorious in 23 of the past 31 (23-6-2) contests against UNH.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Friday is New Hampshire's season opener, as the Wildcats dropped an exhibition game against Maine, 3-2, last Saturday at Colby College.
- Sophomore Stiven Sardarian and freshman Nick Ring each tallied a goal and an assist for UNH.
- Sophomore goaltender Tyler Muszelik played the first two periods and stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced.
- Junior Jakob Hellsten played the final 18:40 between the pipes and made 10 saves while allowing two goals.
- Junior Liam Devlin is the Wildcats' top returning scorer, having notched 24 points on 12 goals and 12 assists as a sophomore.
- Sophomore Cy LeClerc led UNH with 13 goals as a rookie last year while junior Colton Huard paced the Wildcats with 16 assists in 2022-23.
- Muszelik started 12 of the 14 games in which he appeared last season, posting a 3.24 goals-against average and an .883 save percentage en route to a 4-7-2 record.
- Hellsten transferred from North Dakota, where he made a career-high nine starts and appeared in a career-high 13 games last season.
- He went 5-5-2 with a 2.72 GAA and an .875 save percentage for the Fighting Hawks last year.
