
Gianino, McNulty Capture Patriot League Weekly Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior Abigail McNulty and sophomore Giulianna Gianino have been named the Patriot League Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Week, respectively, for the week of Oct. 2, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
McNulty garners the Terriers' first Offensive Player of the Week award in 2023, while Gianino collects her first-ever Midfielder of the Week honor. This is the first week BU has won multiple awards since Oct. 10, 2022, which is also the last time McNulty was chosen as Offensive Player of the Week. Overall, McNulty and Gianino each have three-career weekly awards.
McNulty recorded her first-career brace with two goals in the 3-2 win at Navy on Oct. 1. Playing in her first match since Aug. 20, she put the Terriers ahead 2-0 in the 55th minute, then buried the game-winning goal with 5:28 remaining in the second half. She became the first Terrier to score twice in a game since Geovanna Pereira on Oct. 27, 2021 at Army West Point.
Gianino got the scoring started for the Terriers against the Mids, potting a free kick in the 47th minute after drawing a foul at the top of the box.
In three contests this year, McNulty has tallied nine shots to pair with her two goals. She is the fourth Terrier in 2023 to score multiple goals. In 46 career appearances, she has registered eight goals and 12 assists for 28 points.
This season, Gianino leads the Terriers with four goals (tied for third in the Patriot League) and three assists for a career-best 11 points (fourth in the Patriot League). All four of her goals this season have come on set pieces,
BU returns to the pitch on Saturday (Oct. 7), hosting Lafayette for Soc'toberFest and Youth Day at Nickerson Field. Opening kick is scheduled for 4 p.m.
