No. 9 Terriers, No. 19 UMass Begin Home-and-Home Series Friday Night at Agganis

The ninth-ranked Boston University men's ice hockey team will return to Hockey East play this weekend when the Terriers face No. 19 UMass in a home-and-home series that begins Friday night at Agganis Arena. TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU split last weekend's series at Notre Dame, ending on a high note with a convincing 8-2 victory on Saturday.
  • Eleven different Terriers recorded a point in Saturday's victory, including eight with multiple points.
  • Freshman Macklin Celebrini recorded his second two-goal game of the year and currently leads all Hockey East rookies with five goals.
  • Celebrini also has one assist for six points through his first four NCAA games.
  • Freshman Shane Lachance collected his first two collegiate goals on Saturday while classmate Aiden Celebrini completed a two-point night with his first NCAA goal.
  • Senior Luke Tuch paced the BU offense with three points (1g, 2a) and also led the Terriers with seven blocked shots over the weekend.
  • Aiden Celebrini leads all Hockey East freshmen defensemen with four points (1g, 3a).
  • Sophomore Jeremy Wilmer leads BU with four assists after helping on a pair of goals during Saturday's win.
  • BU outshot Notre Dame, 50-30, on Saturday and finished the weekend with a 94-56 advantage in shots on goal.
  • The Terriers have averaged 37.5 shots on goal through their first four games, which ranks ninth in the country.

HISTORY WITH UMASS

  • The Terriers are 70-14-8 all-time against UMass in a series that began on Jan. 16, 1920.
  • BU earned its first win in program history against UMass, which was known then as Massachusetts Agricultural College, on Jan. 11, 1923, at Boston Arena.
  • The Terriers have won five straight games against the Minutemen and are 7-0-1 over the last eight games against UMass, including a three-game sweep last season.
  • BU is 20-3-4 against UMass at Agganis Arena.
  • Head coach Jay Pandolfo has never lost to UMass as either a player or a coach, having gone 8-0-0 while skating for BU and 5-0-1 when behind the Terrier bench.

SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN

  • UMass enters the weekend at No. 19 in both national polls following a weekend sweep at then-No. 19/20 Minnesota State.
  • The Minutemen earned wins of 6-3 and 1-0 over the Mavericks, which followed a weekend split with then-No. 6 Michigan at Mullins Center (Oct. 13-14).
  • UMass has scored 13 goals during its current three-game win streak.
  • Freshman Jack Musa leads UMass with eight points thanks to two goals and a team-high six assists.
  • Junior Ryan Lautenbach has recorded a team-best three goals while Musa and junior defensemen Ryan Ufko (2g, 4a) and Scott Morrow (2g, 5a) are next with two goals apiece.
  • Freshman goaltender Michael Hrabal has started all three games during the Minutemen's win streak, making his collegiate debut in the 6-3 triumph over Michigan.
  • He owns a 2.01 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage thanks in part to a 32-save shutout at Minnesota State last Saturday.
  • Senior Cole Brady, who appeared in both games against BU last November and made 32 saves in a 5-1 loss on Nov. 12, is 1-1-0 this year with a 3.25 GAA and a .900 save percentage.
