Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 5 Terriers Fall to Boston College, 4-2

BOSTON - Freshman Ryan Greene and senior Jay O'Brien lit the lamp for the No. 5 Boston University men's ice hockey team, but the Terriers suffered a 4-2 setback to Boston College in the Beanpot consolation game on Monday night at TD Garden.

BU (20-8-0) rallied to tie the game at 2-2 at 8:16 of the third, but a BC (10-12-6) retort just 27 seconds later proved to be the game-winner. The Terriers pulled junior Drew Commesso (22 saves) in favor of an extra attacker in the final minutes but was unable to find an equalizer.

Senior captain Domenick Fensore assisted on both goals, with freshmen Quinn Hutson and Jeremy Wilmer each adding an assist. This was the first time all season that the Terriers have lost two straight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BC opened the scoring just 1:52 into the frame and doubled its lead at the 11:45 mark with a power-play goal.
  • Greene answered just over a minute later. Hutson kept the play alive in the offensive zone and Greene's shot from the slot slipped through the five-hole of Mitch Benson (21 saves).
  • Commesso made a sensational pad save on a breakaway bid early in the second stanza to keep the Terriers within a goal.
  • BU outshot BC, 7-4, in the middle frame but neither team broke through.
  • O'Brien evened the score at 8:16 of the third period after a nice give-and-go with Wilmer.
  • The Eagles regained their lead just 27 seconds later before adding an empty-netter with just four seconds to play.
GAME NOTES
  • This was the first-ever meeting between BU and BC in the Beanpot consolation game.
  • Freshman Lane Hutson had his 11-game point streak snapped.
  • Fensore tallied three assists across the two Beanpot tilts.
  • BC went 1-for-4 on the man advantage while BU was held scoreless on both of its power plays.
  • The Terriers and Eagles split the regular-season series, with each team winning twice.
