BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team closed out its regular season on Saturday evening with a 4-0 loss to No. 5 Northeastern at Matthews Arena. Graduate student
Andrea Brändli made a season-high 45 saves in goal.
The Terriers will enter the Hockey East playoffs as the No. 7 seed and will host 10th-seeded Merrimack in the first round on Wednesday (Feb. 22) at 7 p.m.
BU finishes the regular season with a record of 11-19-3 and a 9-15-3 mark in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies had four different goal scorers on the night and took the lead midway through the first on a power-play goal by Katy Knoll.
- Molly Griffin doubled Northeastern's lead 3:30 into the second and Mia Brown made it a 3-0 lead on another power-play mark at 17:19 of the period.
- Peyton Anderson created the 4-0 final with a tally at 10:37 of the third.
- BU had at least one power-play chance in each period but were unable to find the back of the net
GAME NOTES
- Brändli made 24 of her 45 saves in the second period alone.
- Gwyneth Philips stopped all 21 shots she faced for NU before Alexa Matses played the final 3:27 and made one save to close out the shutout.
- Junior Tamara Gianquinto had a team-high three blocked shots to raise her team-leading season total to 55.
- BU was 0-for-4 on the power play while the Huskies were 2-for-5.
UP NEXT
- The postseason starts on Wednesday (Feb. 22) when the Terriers host Merrimack for a 7 p.m. contest in the first round of the Hockey East tournament.
- A win would send BU to Vermont for the quarterfinal round on Saturday (Feb. 25).
