Men's Lacrosse Posts 14-12 Win at Bucknell; Polley Reaches 100 Career Victories

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Boston University men's lacrosse team held off a late charge from Bucknell to post a 14-12 road victory on Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Terriers extended their win streak to four games in the process and improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play.

BU led wire-to-wire and held a 14-9 advantage with eight minutes to play before the Bison put together a late comeback bid. The Terriers never let their lead get lower than two and held on as head coach Ryan Polley secured the 100th win of his career, 72 of which have come during his 10 seasons at BU.

Senior Louis Perfetto matched a career high with eight points, including a career-high seven assists while graduate student Timmy Ley (5g, 1a) and senior Vince D'Alto (1g, 5a) each tallied six points on the afternoon. Senior Roy Meyer led all players with 10 ground balls to top his previous career best of nine.

Juniors Tommy Bourque and Tommy Jepson each recorded two goals while graduate students Jett Dziama and Matt Hilburn and junior Dane DeGoler each posted one goal apiece.

Freshman Rich Rindos shined at the faceoff X in his collegiate debut, going 7-of-15 and picking up two ground balls. Graduate student Matt Garber made seven saves to earn the win in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers scored the first three goals of the contest and took a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • DeGoler opened the scoring 4:51 into the game with a 60-yard bounce shot off Bucknell's 10-man ride as Garber picked up his first career assist on the play.
  • Dziama and Perfetto scored goals 27 seconds midway through the opening quarter to push the lead to 3-0.
  • The Bison got on the board just six seconds later as Connor Davis scored his first of five goals on the day.
  • Ley scored the final two goals of the quarter on helpers from Perfetto and D'Alto to create a four-goal cushion.
  • A man-up tally by Bucknell just 22 seconds into the second quarter kicked off a 4-1 run by the Bison in a span of seven minutes to cut the BU lead to 6-5.
  • BU responded with back-to-back man-up goals from the sticks of Bourque and D'Alto to make it an 8-5 affair.
  • Will Hopkins scored for the home team with 3:14 left in the half and the Terriers took the momentum heading into the break as Perfetto found Bourque for a tally with just one second left on the clock to give BU a 9-6 halftime lead.
  • Just like they did to start the game, the Terriers strung together the first three goals of the second half to create what would be the largest lead of the contest at 12-6.
  • Jepson found the back of the net with 12:12 left in the third and Ley added his fourth of the game nine minutes later.
  • Hilburn created the six-goal lead on a tally with 33 seconds left in the third before Bucknell ended the run on a goal with just one second remaining in the third.
  • Bucknell added two tallies in the early stages of the fourth to get within three at 12-9 but Jepson and Ley responded soon after to create a 14-9 BU advantage.
  • The late Bison run was started by a man-up goal with 7:13 to play as the Terriers took a 14-10 lead into the closing minutes.
  • Bucknell got goals 14 seconds apart in the 59th minute of play to make it a two-goal deficit and claimed the ensuing faceoff but the Bison were unable to put another shot on goal.
