RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Continuing its California trip, the Boston University men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision at UC Riverside Wednesday afternoon. 

The Highlanders (5-9) captured four singles points, including two in three-set battles, to outlast the Terriers (7-8). Sophomore Adrian Pawlowski led BU with a win at No. 1 doubles and No. 5 singles.

BU and UCR earned identical 6-2 victories in doubles to put the first point up for grabs. After junior Jonah Dickson and sophomore Cole Knutsen coasted to victory at line 2, Pawlowski and junior Johann Sajonz claimed a 7-5 win in the top slot for the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles, junior Ben Letzer held off a late charge for a 6-2, 7-6(5) win at line 3. Pawlowski duplicated his efforts on the No. 5 court. The Highlanders though also won two matches in straight sets in the No. 4 and 6 slots.

Both Dickson and Knutsen rallied from a set down to force a third but were broken late in defeat. Dickson fell to Daniel Velek in the top match, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, while Knutsen dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 decision to Antreas Djakouris at line 2.

After suffering its first one-point defeat of the season, the Terriers will next visit UC San Diego on Saturday (March 11) at 2 p.m. ET.
