Softball Completes Sweep at Bucknell, 9-5

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Boosted by five extra-base hits, the Boston University softball team completed the series sweep at Bucknell, 9-5, on Saturday morning.

With their 16th straight win, the Terriers improve to 36-7 and remain unbeaten in Patriot League play at 9-0. They now lead the nation with 14 straight road victories, as the Bison (10-25, 2-10 PL) fell to 1-5 at home.

Senior Caitlin Coker led the offense batting 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs alongside a program record-tying two triples. Junior Lauren Keleher, junior Kayla Roncin and graduate student Emily Gant all collected two hits apiece while combining for seven RBIs and five runs. In the circle, freshman Kasey Ricard (15-2) earned the win behind five strikeouts in six innings of work against two runs allowed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU grabbed the lead for good in the first inning with Coker singling through the right side, stealing second and scoring on Gant's RBI triple to right center.
  • Bucknell threatened in the bottom half with a one-out walk and single before Ricard earned a line out and ground out.
  • In the second, graduate student Nicole Amodio doubled to right and scored on Keleher's RBI single up the middle.
  • Roncin followed with another single and scored alongside Keleher on Coker's two-RBI triple to right.
  • The Terriers added three more runs in the fourth with the help of RBI hits from Keleher (single) and Roncin (double) along with an error.
  • The Bison got on the scoreboard with two runs off a single, RBI triple and sac fly, but the Terriers regained the seven-run lead in the sixth on Coker's RBI triple and Gant's RBI single.
  • Bucknell tried to mount another rally against senior Allison Boaz with three runs off a walk and three hits, including a two-RBI double, before she earned a strikeout and ground out.
  • Ricard returned to the circle in the seventh and sealed the victory with her fifth strikeout of the game.
