Softball to Host Maine in Tuesday DH, Visit UMass Wednesday

BOSTON – Riding the nation's second longest active win streak at 16 games, the Boston University softball team will host former America East rival Maine on Tuesday with the doubleheader set for 1 p.m. and then visit in-state foe UMass on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. first pitch.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is off to its best start through 43 games since posting 36-7 mark in 1994 with the 36 wins tied for sixth most in program history. The Terriers are eight games away from setting both a program and school record for victories.
  • Junior Kayla Roncin ranks third nationally at 68 hits and 11th at .463 batting average while boasting a team-high 39 RBIs, 40 runs scored and six homers. 
  • Senior Caitlin Coker (.353) also has 40 runs scored alongside 35 RBIs and leads the nation at nine triples.
  • Junior Lauren Keleher is second on the team at .376 with a team-high 11 doubles while owning 23 walks.
  • The Terriers' pitching staff has combined for 20 shutouts, third most in program history and three away from tying the program record. BU's defense has played a critical role, ranking third nationally at .983 fielding percentage.
  • Senior Allison Boaz (17-4, 1.54 ERA) has gone the distance 11 times with 113 strikeouts in 123.0 innings, while freshman Kasey Ricard (15-2, 1.67 ERA) has tallied 147 strikeouts in 109.0 innings with 10 complete game performances. Senior Lizzy Avery (4-1, 1.80 ERA) has a solo shutout and has been part of five other shutouts.
  • BU is batting .319 while holding opponents to .200 with 53-10 advantage in stolen bases and 50-18 lead in doubles.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

vs. Maine, 10-27 (Tuesday, 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.)
  • The Black Bears most recently went 1-2 at home against UMass Lowell and went 1-5 on the last road trip with 1-2 mark at Bryant alongside two losses at Rhode Island. They notable wins over George Washington (3-2), Western Illinois (8-1, 5-4), Fresno State (4-2) and St. Mary's (5-1).
  • Grace McGouldrick leads Maine at .360 with 24 stolen bases, while Kelby Drews is batting .400 with 18 hits in 45 at-bats. Anna Margetis (.169) owns a team-high 12 RBIs ahead of Izzy Nieblas' (.245) 11 RBIs.
  • Alysen Rieth (5-5, 4.25 ERA) owns 48 strikeouts in 84.0 innings, while Caitlyn Fallon (5-11, 5.04 ERA) has 48 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.
  • Maine is batting .221, while opponents are batting .313 with 23-5 advantage in homers and 86-44 lead in stolen bases.
  • BU leads the all-time series, 54-27, with a 26-8 home record. The Terriers have won the last nine meetings, including a 5-2 decision in Florida in 2015, and will be hosting the Black Bears for the first time since sweeping the last conference series between the two programs back in 2013 (2-0, 9-5 and 7-1).
at UMass (Wednesday, 2 p.m.)
  • UMass most recently went 2-1 at home against St. Bonaventure (6-3, 11-3, 1-2) following a DH split against Marist (6-5, 3-9). The Minutewomen have notable wins at Boston College (6-5) alongside pair of victories over Colgate (8-3, 6-2).
  • Chloe Whittier is batting .357 with 17 RBIs, while Bella Patoja (.328) owns a team-high 20 RBIs. Jules Shields (.326) is the third member over .300 and has 10 doubles alongside 18 RBIs.
  • Julianne Bolton (3-10, 4.72 ERA) has tallied 70 strikeouts in 83.0 innings, while Natalee Horton (6-6, 4.03 ERA) has two shutouts behind 52 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. Jessie DiPasquale (3-6, 4.60 ERA) has joined the other two in earning double-digit starts and has 44 strikeouts in 67.0 innings.
  • Overall, UMass is batting .255 and holding opponents to .297.
  • The Minutewomen lead the all-time series, 15-7, but BU has won the last three meetings, including a 6-0 home win in 2022. The Terriers last visited Amherst in 2017 and fell in the doubleheader, 3-1 and 6-4. BU last won in Amherst with a 10-4 elimination victory in the 2010 NCAA Regionals and last pulled out a regular season victory there in 1996.
