Pair of Gant Hits and 11 Ricard Strikeouts Key 3-1 Softball Victory at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Freshman Kasey Ricard posted 11 strikeouts and graduate student Emily Gant delivered a pair of RBI hits to help the Boston University softball team post a 3-1 victory at UMass Wednesday afternoon.

With their NCAA leading 15th straight road victory, the Terriers improve to 39-7 and also extend the nation's second longest win streak to 19 contests. BU scored twice in the third and added an insurance run in the fifth, as the Minutewomen (14-24) managed just one run off two hits in the sixth against Ricard.

Junior Lauren Keleher joined Gant with multiple hits, as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Both junior Kayla Roncin and classmate Lauren Nett collected a single as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Keleher singled to left in the first and Gant drew a walk, UMass ended the threat with a ground out.
  • Ricard tallied three strikeouts over the first two innings to keep the game scoreless.
  • Roncin started the third with a lead-off single up the middle and took second on Keleher's second single to left before scoring on Gant's RBI single to left.
  • Pryor plated Keleher from third on a grounder to second for the 2-0 advantage.
  • UMass threatened in the fourth with a lead-off walk and two-out hit-by-pitch before Ricard claimed a swinging strikeout.
  • Coker drew a two-out walk in the fifth and scored on Gant's RBI triple to right center.
  • After a pair of ground outs, UMass earned a single and then tried to stretch an RBI double toward right to a triple before being thrown out at third.
  • Ricard opened the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back strikeouts and kept the go-ahead run on deck following a two-out walk with another strikeout.
