MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – The Boston University women's golf team posted an opening-round 304 at the Patriot League Championship on Friday at Independence Golf Club. The Terriers sit in third place in the six-team field, 11 strokes off the lead.
Â
Thanks in part to the second eagle of her career – and second this week – sophomore
Christy Chen led the Terriers with a 2-over 72 while senior co-captains
Alice Fan and
Kristen Min Ju Kim each recorded a 4-over 74. Chen will enter Saturday's second round just three strokes behind the lead.
Â
Sophomore
Victoria Takai had BU's fourth score with a 6-over 78. Freshman
Annika Manjunath and junior
Flair Kuan shot 79 and 80, respectively.
Kim and Takai led the team with three birdies apiece while Manjunath had two and Chen added one to go along with her eagle. Fan opened her round with a birdie and Kuan notched one on the 17th, a hole the Terriers shot a combined 5-under on.Â
Tournament host Richmond led all teams with a 293, thanks in large part to junior Rory Weinfurther's opening-round 71. Lehigh posted a 298 and currently sits in second. BU is two strokes ahead of fourth-place Navy (306), which is one stroke ahead of Bucknell (307). Holy Cross rounded out the six-team field with a 320.
At last season's PL Championship, the Terriers sat in fourth after the opening round before going on to win their third PL title.Â
BU will play with golfers from Richmond and Lehigh in Saturday's second round beginning at 8:45 a.m.
