BOSTON – After celebrating the six-member senior class, the Boston University softball team rolled to a 7-1 home victory over Army on Saturday morning.
With their 26th straight win, one shy of tying both the program and Patriot League record set last season, the Terriers improve to 46-7 and a perfect 15-0 in conference play. BU finished with an 11-3 advantage in hits over the Black Knights (17-34, 7-8 PL) while posting a 5-0 advantage in strikeouts.
Eight of the nine starters contributed at least one hit on the day, as freshman
Brooke Deppiesse went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior
Caitlin Coker and junior
Lauren Keleher went a combined 4-for-7 while combining for three runs scored. Junior
Kate Pryor joined graduate student
Emily Gant in recording two RBIs apiece.
In the circle, senior
Allison Boaz (21-4) collected her third victory of the week behind three strikeouts against three hits. Classmate
Lizzy Avery finished off Army in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Boaz earned three ground outs in the top of the first, Keleher led off with a double and later run scored on Gant's RBI sac fly.
- The Terriers put the game away with five runs off seven singles in the bottom of the third, including a lead-off hit from Keleher.
- Gant, junior Lauren Nett and Deppiesse followed Coker's one-out single with three straight RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0.
- Pryor then drove a 2-0 pitch up the middle to add two more runs.
- Army avoided the shutout with its fourth homer of the series, a solo shot in the fifth, but would manage just one more hit the rest of the game for the loss.
- Deppiesse moved the lead back to six runs by doubling down the left field in the bottom half and scoring on senior Audrey Sellers' RBI single.
UP NEXT
- BU will next visit defending Patriot League tournament champion Lehigh next Saturday (May 6) and Sunday (May 7) with the doubleheader and third contest set to begin at 12 p.m.
- Both programs are 15-0 in conference play, meaning the team that wins at least two games in the series will host the PL tournament.
- Lehigh won four of the six contests last season, all at BU. The Terriers are 4-1 over the last five meetings.
