WEST POINT, N.Y. – Extending its win streak to three matches, the Boston University men's tennis team continued Patriot League play with a 4-2 win over Lehigh at Army West Point's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Terriers (11-10, 3-1 PL) dropped a hard fought doubles point but were able to rally in singles action with four straight-set victories to defeat the Mountain Hawks (9-9, 2-3 PL). BU snapped a three-match losing streak to Lehigh to move above .500 on the season.
Junior
Jonah Dickson went 2-0 on the day, first teaming with sophomore
Cole Knutsen for a 7-6(7) win at No. 2 doubles and then prevailing at line 6 in singles, 6-4, 7-6(6). Knutsen was ahead in his third set at line 4 when play was halted.
Lehigh grabbed the early 1-0 lead by posting a 6-3 victory at line 3 and pulling out a tiebreaker in the top match to defeat both sophomore
Dion Loutas and freshman
Alejandro Licea, 7-6(4).
Freshman
Corey Craig quickly put the Terriers on the scoreboard by dropping just four games in a 6-1, 6-3, victory on the No. 2 singles court. Licea rebounded from his doubles loss with a 7-5, 6-3 win at line 3, and Letzer posted an identical score in the No. 5 slot.
The Mountain Hawks earned their other point with a 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 1 court before BU eventually snapped a three-match losing streak in the series.
The Terriers will next face weekend host Army on Sunday (April 9) at 12 p.m.
