Stickelman Named Patriot League Midfielder Of The Week
August 28, 2023 | Women's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the first time in her career, sophomore Mackenzie Stickelman garnered a Patriot League weekly award, as the league selected her as the Midfielder of the Week on Monday (Aug. 28).
Stickelman is the first Terrier to capture a weekly accolade in the 2023 campaign. She becomes the first to be named Midfielder of the Week since Sophia Woodland back on Aug. 22, 2022. Overall, she is the eighth different Terrier to earn the distinction since the Midfielder category was implemented for the 2016 season.
The East Northport, N.Y. native provided the heroics in BU's 3-2, comeback victory over UAlbany on Sunday (Aug. 27). In the 83rd minute, the sophomore headed home a cross from Samantha Aronson for her first-career goal.
During the week, Stickelman rattled off four shots, three on target, in two games. She has started all four of BU's matches this year, and already nearly tripled her minutes played (275 in four games) from 2022 (104 in eight appearances).
Aronson was an honorable mention for the Patriot League weekly awards after picking up her first collegiate point on the assist to Stickelman's score.
Since head coach Casey Brown took over the reigns last year, BU has totaled 11 weekly award winners.
The Terriers return to action on Thursday (Aug. 31), visiting #RV Northwestern for an 8 p.m. ET opening kick.
