BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team dropped a 4-0 contest to No. 16 Boston College on Friday evening at New Balance Field.
The visitors broke a scoreless tie with three goals in a span of just over nine minutes in the second quarter to take a 3-0 halftime time before adding another in the final quarter.

Kate Thomason made a career-best seven saves in goal for the Terriers, who move to 1-3 on the season. BC improves to 3-2 with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers earned the first corner of the game in a competitive opening quarter but the ensuing shot from the top of the circle was stopped.
- BC responded with three first-quarter corners but the BU defense was up to the task each time.
- Juliette Hijdra was able to open the scoring for the Eagles in the 19th minute when her corner shot found the boards through traffic.
- Margo Carlin, who assisted on Hijdra's goal, made it a 2-0 contest under two minutes later off a corner when she tipped in a shot by Hijdra after inserting the ball.
- The Eagles took a 3-0 lead into the half following a goal by Kendall Hanlon as she sent a ball high into the net after receiving a centering pass from Martina Giacchino in the 28th minute.
- After a scoreless third quarter, BC scored once more with under nine minutes to play when Mia Garber sent home a shot from above the right post following a pass from Peyton Hale.
GAME NOTES
- Thomason made seven saves for the Terriers while Caroline Kelly (4 saves) and Emily Gillespie (1 save) combined for the shutout in goal for the Eagles.
- BC held a 15-6 advantage in shots and earned nine corners to BU's four.
- This was BU's first ranked opponent since facing the then-No. 21 Eagles in last year's non-conference finale.

- BU will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 10) when it visits Vermont.
