Men's Soccer Shuts Out Bucknell, 1-0

BOSTON – Helped by sophomore Andrea Di Blasio's 71st-minute goal and graduate student Andrew Wike's three saves, the Boston University men's soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

With their second shutout of the fall, the Terriers improve to 2-3-8 overall and 2-1-2 in conference play, while the Bison drop to 4-5-3 with an identical 2-1-2 Patriot League mark.

Junior Diego Rived claimed his second assist of the season and helped BU successfully defend against seven Bucknell corner kicks to help the Terriers claim their fourth straight clean sheet in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Andrew Rent helped BU pressure the Bucknell backline early on with his first shot attempt blocked 23 seconds into the first half and had a header shot saved by Freddie Lapworth at 1:59.
  • Lapworth made another stop on junior Quin DeLaMater's shot attempt at 2:58.
  • BU continued to dominate in possession and entered the locker room attempting six of the seven shots.
  • After clearing a BU corner kick, the Bison forced Wike to make his first save at 48:21.
  • The Terriers blocked Cohen Weaver's attempt and then cleared the ensuing Bucknell corner in the 69th minute to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the 71st minute, Rived played a through ball up the field to a charging Di Blasio, who made his way to the top of the box and fired a shot past Lapworth for the 1-0 advantage.
  • Wike made his second save at 81:00 and made a stellar save at 84:26 on Collin Sullivan's header off a Bison corner.
  • The Terriers defended against two more corners to earn the shutout.
GAME NOTES
  • With his second game-winning goal, Di Blasio grabbed the team lead in both goals (3) and points (7).
  • Rived became the fourth Terrier to record two assists this fall with the two helpers tying his personal best from his freshman season in 2022.
  • Wike earned his second career shutout following his five-save performance in a 0-0 season-opening draw against then-No. 9 New Hampshire.
  • BU finished ahead in shots, 9-8, while the Bison held a 7-2 lead in corners.
  • The Terriers improved to 4-3-6 all-time in the series.
