HOPKINTON, N.H. — The Boston University cross country teams are set to run at the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15 at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds. The women's 6K race begins at 11 a.m. and the men's 10K race goes off at noon.
The women's team is looking to improve upon a 13
th-place finish a year ago and be one of two teams to earn an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Coming in as the ninth-ranked team in the Northeast by the USTFCCCA, the women's team will go up against ranked programs in Providence (11
th), Boston College (26
th) and Syracuse (28
th).
Returning for the Terriers is junior
Vera Sjöberg, who finished 21
st at the Regionals a year ago with a 6K time of 20:31.5 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York. Sophomore
Adrienne Buettner-Cable and junior
Samantha Seabury also were in the scoring five for the Terriers a year ago.
The women come off one of the best Patriot League Championships performances in recent years, scoring 36 points and finishing as runners-up with the lowest points total in program history. Sjöberg was the individual champion with a time of 19:45.9, besting the next-best runner by over 30 seconds. Following her was sophomore
Ola Szulska (20:51.5), senior
Daisy Liljegren (20:59.8), Buettner-Cable (21:03.3) and freshman
Caroline Collins (21:13.7), who was named Outstanding Freshman of the Meet after finishing 14
th overall and first among freshmen.
On the men's side, they finished 10
th a year ago at the NCAA Northeast Regional and return both junior
Parker Schneider, who ran a 30:33.2 on the 10K course at Van Cortlandt Park, and graduate student
Alex Brown (31:39.1).
The men are ranked 13
th in the Northeast entering the weekend, and will race against nationally ranked squads in Syracuse (17
th), Harvard (20
th) and Iona (29
th).
A young squad, the Terriers earned a third-place finish at the 2024 Patriot League Championships with 97 points. The finish was the team's 10
th straight year finishing in the top three at the PL Championships.
Brown was the top finisher with a 17th-place finish in 24:21.1. Junior
Moritz Ebbeskotte (24:27.5), sophomore
Karsen Vesty (24:35.9), junior
Parker Schneider (24:35.9) and freshman
Dan Hruska (24:37.0) all followed.
The women will look to earn a top-10 finish for the first time since 2010, when they finished 10th, while the men will look for their second straight top-10 finish after taking 10th last year.
