Sjöberg Earns Championship Bid as Cross Country Races at NCAA Regionals

November 15, 2024

HOPKINTON, N.H. — Junior Vera Sjöberg finished seventh and qualified for the NCAA Championships as the Boston University women's cross country team finished eighth with 258 points at the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regionals on Friday morning at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds.

The eighth-place finish is the best since 2008, when the Terriers took eighth at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York.

Sjöberg's time of 19:59.19 was an improvement upon a 2023 finish of 26th place, and she earned USTFCCCA All-Northeast Region honors to go along with her NCAA Championships bid. The Stockholm, Sweden native is the second Terrier to qualify for the event in as many years.

Behind her was sophomore Ola Szulska, who finished in 20:57.07 and in 43rd place and senior Daisy Liljegren with a 21:06.42 time to finish 53rd. Rounding out the top five were sophomore Adrienne Buettner Cable with a 21:08.33 finish, taking 56th, and freshman Caroline Collins, who crossed the line at 21:46.14 and was 100th overall.

Sjöberg moves on to the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wisconsin next Saturday, Nov. 23. That meet will be live on ESPNU with the women's race kicking off at 10:20 a.m.

For the rest of the Terriers, they will move on to the indoor track portion of the schedule, with the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Track & Tennis Center.
