Field Hockey Hosts Cornell for Senior Day on Sunday

The Boston University field hockey team will close out its regular season on Sunday (Nov. 3) when it hosts Cornell and holds its annual Senior Day. Game time at New Balance Field is set for 2 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers will honor seniors Payton Anderson, Katie Devine, Tegan Poerio and Ella Rottinghaus along with fifth-year Tess Csejka and graduate students Pili Alvarez and Kate Thomason in a pregame ceremony.
  • BU is now 6-9 on the year and finished up Patriot League play last Friday (Oct. 25) with a 5-0 loss at Lafayette.
  • Senior Payton Anderson continues to lead the team in both points (21) and goals (10) with her goal total ranking tied for tied among Patriot League players.
  • Anderson now stands in 10th on BU's career points list with 76.
  • Junior Natalie Epperson has eight points on four goals while seniors Tegan Poerio (1g, 5a) and Katie Devine (3g, 1a) and junior Megan Wetzel (7a) have all tallied seven points.
  • Wetzel ranks fourth among Patriot League players in assists this season. 
  • The Terriers have scored on 16 of their 73 corners this season for a conversion percentage of 21.9 percent, which ranks fifth in the nation.
  • Graduate student Kate Thomason has started the past 13 contests in goal for BU and has a 2.47 goals-against average and a .723 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
  • Cornell will be playing in its season finale on Sunday as it was eliminated from the Ivy League tournament race on Saturday following a 4-0 loss at No. 11 Harvard.
  • The Big Red finished Ivy play with a record of 3-4, earning wins over Brown, Penn and Dartmouth.
  • Cornell's non-conference wins have come against Bryant, Colgate and La Salle.
  • Sophomore Julia Ramsey leads the Big Red in points with 11 and four teammates have eight points apiece.
  • Ramsey and freshman Uma Käding each have a team-best four goals.
  • Sophomore Martha Broderick has started all 15 games in goal and sports a .708 save percentage and a 2.26 goals-against average.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CORNELL

  • Sunday will mark just the third all-time meeting between the two schools with each team having one win.
  • This will be the first meeting in Boston.
  • Last season, Cornell earned a 6-0 home win.
  • The Terriers earned a 1-0 victory over the Big Red on Sept. 26, 1987, in a neutral-site contest at Syracuse.

  • BU will turn its focus to the Patriot League tournament beginning with a semifinal matchup at top-seeded American on Thursday (Nov. 7).
