SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman
Allison Schwertner recorded team highs of 18 points and seven rebounds while senior
Alex Giannaros nailed a jumper with 53.2 seconds left in regulation to help the Boston University women's basketball team post a 60-55 road win at Le Moyne on Thursday evening at Ted Grant Court.
BU (4-3) trailed by as many as 13 points later in the third quarter, but outscored the Dolphins (0-8) 24-11 in the final quarter to notch its first victory outside of Case Gym in the 2024-25 slate.
Schwertner made nine shots while also adding four steals. Giannaros finished with 13 points, while sophomore
Audrey Ericksen collected 12 points.
Haedyn Roberts was Le Moyne's lone scorer in double figures with 23 points, knocking down five three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 7-4 at the 4:08 mark of the first quarter, sophomore Aoibhe Gormley found freshman Channing Warren on the right block for a layup, then Schwertner converted two fastbreak layups on passes from Gormley to put BU in front, 10-7.
- However, Roberts canned two triples in the final 57 seconds of the frame to put Le Moyne in front, 13-10.
- After a Le Moyne bucket ignited the second quarter, Giannaros and Ericksen drained threes in the opening 1:32 to make it 16-15 in the Terriers' favor.
- The Dolphins retook the lead with 6:41 until halftime, but junior Anete Adler's layup and a straightaway three from sophomore Bella McLaughlin put BU back in front, 23-20.
- BU did not score again until the clock read 7:55 in the third quarter, however, allowing Le Moyne to build a 31-23 advantage that Ericksen halted with a layup that beat the shot clock.
- A pair of three-point plays from Roberts halfway through the third quarter boosted Le Moyne's edge to 40-27.
- Down 13 approaching three minutes to go in the stanza, Schwertner made a layup, then Adler's steal led to Giannaros' three off a McLaughlin dish to bring BU within eight, 42-34.
- After three offensive rebounds on the first Terrier offensive possession in the fourth quarter, Ericksen knocked down a three-pointer. She then fed Schwertner for a layup to close the gap to 44-41.
- As Gormley and Adler sank layups to whittle the distance to one point, Mia Yanogacio drilled a mid-range jumper near the foul line. However, Giannaros' right-wing three-pointer handed BU a 50-49 lead, its first since the second quarter, with 3:26 to play.
- After Roberts' and-one at the 1:51 mark, Schwertner and Yanogacio traded baskets to make it 55-55. As the clock dwindled under one minute, Giannaros hit a jumper with her foot on the three-point line with 53.2 seconds on the clock.
- Ericksen and Gormley combined for a trio of free throws as McLaughlin came up with a block on Yanogacio to help coerce a shot clock violation on Le Moyne with 22 seconds left.
