Men's Basketball Defeats Bucknell Press in 77-62 Road Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Boosted by 22 assists, the Boston University men's basketball rolled to a 77-62 victory at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon.

Having won five of their last seven contests with the other two going to overtime, the Bison (10-15, 7-5 PL) implemented a full-court press for much of the contest, but the Terriers (10-15, 5-7 PL) were able to withstand the pressure and finish the contest shooting 52.8 percent from the field with nine 3-pointers off 21 attempts (.429).

Freshman Kyrone Alexander led BU with a season and game-high 19 points alongside a personal-best six assists. Sophomore Otto Landrum totaled 14 points, and senior Miles Brewster contributed 13 points with four assists. Sophomore Nico Nobili was the fourth Terrier in double figures at 11 points with six rebounds and three assists, while freshman Matai Baptiste claimed a game-high eight rebounds and eight points.

For the Bison, Jack Forrest earned a team-high 18 points, but was held to 5-of-13 shooting with four of the buckets coming from behind the arc. Elvin Edmonds IV added 17 points and five assists. Bucknell shot 55.6 percent over the final 20 minutes en route to 38 points, but the Terriers had an even better 66.7 FG% to earn a season-high 52 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a first half featuring five lead changes and four ties, the Bison scored the game's first five points and later added a 3-pointer to grab their largest lead, 16-10, at 11:57.
  • The Terriers responded with an 11-2 run over the next seven minutes behind 3-pointers from Alexander and sophomore Ben Roy.
  • The teams exchanged buckets the rest of the half with Nobili draining two free throws for a 25-24 lead entering the locker room.
  • Facing a 31-30 deficit with 17:48 remaining, Brewster fed Landrum for an easy layup and then forced a turnover on the next possession to help set up Alexander's two fastbreak free throws to grab the lead for good.
  • After Forrest went 2-of-3 at the charity stripe to cut BU's lead to 39-36 at 13:51, Landrum scored on two buckets in the paint before Brewster flushed a 3-pointer as part of a 7-0 spurt.
  • Bucknell later cut the double-digit lead to six, 51-45, on two free throws with 8:23 remaining but would never get any closer.
  • BU came back with a 10-2 run over the following three minutes and led by as many as 18 before the buzzer sounded.
