Men's Basketball Falls at Army West Point, 65-50

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Unable to get into a rhythm offensively, the Boston University men's basketball team fell at Army West Point, 65-50, on Wednesday night.

The Black Knights (9-17, 5-8 PL) finished the game shooting 52.1 percent from the field while holding the Terriers (10-16, 5-8 PL) to 32.7 FG%. Army held a 7-6 edge in made 3-pointers and nearly doubled BU in points in the paint, 30-16, with a 38-28 advantage in rebounds.

Both freshman Matai Baptiste and junior Ben Palacios came off the bench to lead BU at nine points apiece with Baptiste adding two steals alongside two blocks. Despite being plagued by foul trouble for much of the game, sophomore Nico Nobili totaled eight points and hauled in a personal-best eight rebounds to lead all players.

Four Black Knights scored in double figures with Abe Johnson earning a game-high 16 points and team-high six rebounds. Ryan Curry went 4-of-7 from behind the arc en route to 14 points, six assists and five rebounds. Josh Scovens added 15 points, and TJ Small netted 12 of his own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Otto Landrum opened the game winning the jump ball and finishing a great feed from freshman Kyrone Alexander with a slam dunk.
  • BU though would never lead again, as Small scored seven points during the middle of a 16-0 run capped by Jared Cross' 3-pointer at 14:53.
  • Facing a 26-12 deficit with 8:13 remaining in the half, Palacios provided the needed spark, scoring nine straight points with a pair of 3-pointers and a 3-point play over the next three minutes.
  • The teams traded blows the rest of the half with Army entering the locker room ahead, 30-25.
  • Junior Ethan Okwuosa started the second half hitting a pair of jumpers to pull within one, 30-29, but Scovens responded with a driving layup to spark a 10-0 run finished by Curry's 3-pointer at 16:04.
  • The Terriers would pull within 10 points on multiple occasions the rest of the game but would never get any closer for the loss.
GAME NOTES
  • Nobili's eight rebounds topped his previous high of seven earned at home against Maine back in December.
  • The Terriers went 6-of-28 (.214) in 3-point territory to drop to 1-12 this season when finishing below 30 percent from behind the arc.
  • Army has now won three straight in the series to cut BU's all-time lead to 22-19.
UP NEXT
  • The Terriers return home to host Navy on Saturday (Feb. 17) with a 1 p.m. start time.
  • In the previous meeting at Alumni Hall in January, BU held a 29-23 halftime lead and came up just short in the end, 62-60.
