February 16, 2024

CUMBERLAND, R.I. – The Boston University men's tennis team started the two-match weekend dropping a 5-2 decision at Bryant Friday afternoon.

With their sixth straight victory, the Bulldogs improve to 8-2, while the Terriers (6-3) see their five-match win streak snapped. Bryant won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then captured four of the six singles points, including two in three-set contests.

Sophomores Corey Craig and Jakob Esterowitz went 2-0 on the day, first teaming for a 6-1 victory in No. 3 doubles. The Bulldogs though jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the other two contests by a combined score of 12-6.

Craig then cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at line 1, while Esterowitz held off a rally on court No. 2 to earn a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, win.

Sophomore Alejandro Licea bounced back from a tightly-contested first set to force a third but was broken one too many times in a hard-fought 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 loss.

Freshman Gustavs Dambins won his first set but came up short in the super tiebreaker in a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(8) defeat.

The Terriers will next visit St. John's on Saturday (Feb. 17) at 4 p.m.
