BOSTON – The Boston University women's ice hockey team fell to No. 15 Boston College, 3-0, in the opener of a weekend home-and-home series on Friday evening at Walter Brown Arena.
The Eagles opened the scoring with 4:19 remaining in the second period and then added an empty-netter with 2:19 left in regulation before adding another goal to create the 3-0 final.
BU moves to 11-14-3 overall and 9-10-1 in Hockey East play while BC improves to 14-8-6 with a 13-4-4 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles looked to test the Terriers in the early stages and put shots on net at every opportunity.
- Junior Callie Shanahan turned aside all 17 BC shots in the opening period.
- BU had the better of the play in the second period but couldn't break the scoreless deadlock.
- The Terriers put together a flurry that included a power play that was preceded by nearly 40 seconds of 6-on-5 but the Eagles got back to full strength and opened the scoring soon after.
- BC defenders teamed up to start a breakout up the left side that created an odd-player rush that Julia Pellerin converted to the far post at 15:41 of the second.
- The game then stayed 5-on-5 until the Terriers pulled Shanahan in favor of extra skater with just under three minutes to play.
- Sammy Taber forced a BU turnover to give her a shot on the empty net that she converted from center ice.
- The Eagles tacked on another just 25 seconds later as Sammy Sigliani broke up a BU pass and skated in before scoring from the left circle.
GAME NOTES
- BU was 0-for-2 on the power play and successfully killed off the Eagles' lone power-play chance.

- Senior Tamara Giaquinto led the Terriers in blocked shots with four.
